      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Toggl in Mar 2025

      Interview

Warning: Toggl withdrew their trial week invite because of my NATIONALITY. The hiring process is deceptive and DISCRIMINATORY. I completed four interview rounds and was ultimately invited to do a test week. Throughout the hiring process, I received positive feedback and was given every indication that I was moving forward. Then, out of nowhere, my application was withdrawn due to "evolving geopolitical considerations." When I asked for clarification, I received shifting and contradictory explanations from the legal team. First, they said I presented an "unacceptable liability risk," then they claimed they don't hire anyone from Austria at all, despite the fact that the job description clearly states "you can work from anywhere in Europe." I was born in Russia (something I don't have any control over), but I have lived in Austria for six years and hold a residence permit that gives me full access to the labor market. I was applying as an Austrian-registered sole trader, yet they refused to refer to any specific policies or regulations that would prevent them from hiring me. What is more, I clearly stated my location in the first round, so if location was an issue, they could have filtered me out right away. Bottom line: If you’re applying to Toggl, be aware that their hiring process may involve factors beyond your control. Although I had initially been very excited about the opportunity, after this experience, I would not recommend applying to Toggl.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Toggl in Feb 2025

      Interview

The process was very complete and well adjusted around the skills. i could myself see if the job was aligned with what I wanted, because i had a clear understanding of the environment and type of mission I wanted to go for. 1. Structured & Transparent Process Every step was clearly explained in advance, with specific deliverables, timelines, and points of contact. Expectations were well communicated from day one. 2. Hands-On Test Week The Test Week offers a deep and practical view of the role — covering onboarding analysis, GTM strategy, dashboarding, and re-engagement plans. It’s a great way to demonstrate real impact and see how the team works. Also a good opportunity to test the role, and check if my skills but also my will are aligned with the specifics of the role, and the team. 3. Authentic Interaction with the Team Conversations with product, marketing, engineering, and leadership were open and thoughtful. It gave me genuine insight into Toggl’s async culture and collaborative mindset. Being new in a complete Async environment, I feel like it was a mandatory step to go through, in order to avoid any surprise once you join. 4. Ownership & Autonomy Emphasized The process clearly values candidates who can take initiative, adapt quickly, and communicate clearly in an async-first environment — a strong reflection of Toggl’s core values.
