I applied for the position in April and had a phone interview with HR, followed by a phone and an in-person interview with the hiring manager. I was told that the next steps would be to speak with two of the hiring manager's direct reports (one of which has only been in the industry for 1 ½ years), then in-person interviews with senior management in San Francisco and one interview with the group's VP.
The day before the phone interview with the two direct reports, I was contacted by another person who made the travel arrangements for my trip to San Francisco and sent me the interview agenda. I am not sure what has occurred, but after speaking with the 2 direct reports, I received an email from the hiring manager the following day (around 9pm) informing me that they have to cancel my trip and wishing me good luck with my future endeavors.
I sent a reply and mentioned that I would've thought she could've call me and at least let me know how I went from being a candidate that she “would place in front of her boss” to no longer being considered for the position. She followed up stating that her boss asked her to put the position on hold, which doesn't seem to be the case as it was just advertised again right after I received this email.
This position has been open for 9 months.
