      Digital Communications Specialist Interview

      Nov 17, 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Y (YMCA) (Dallas, TX) in Nov 2021

      Interview

The interview process started with a phone call conversation where the Digital and Marketing manager spoke with me for around 20 minutes, providing more details about the position and asked the basics questions about my background and skills. I got a call back to do an in-person interview, but before meeting in person, I would have to complete a few assignments to show my skills, while also providing 6, not 3, but 6 references! To note: the pay was really low balled. People at McDonald's make more. But I was determined to work hard and really advance there, plus I was hit by the 2020 pandemic where I am barely making an affordable living. Anywho, I complete my assignments before the deadline and come in to interview, with 4 people asking me questions for a whole hour. Everything I believe goes well. They say they will contact me at the end of the week for next steps to see if I qualify for the next round. Mind you I sent in emails thanking them for their time and how I am very interested in the position. Management doesn't get to me by their specified date, so that was already a red flag. I get a call over the weekend (not professional) saying that they terminated the position with no real explanation as to why. Only that they want to change or revamp things. I was pissed! No sorry for all your hard work. No sorry for wasting your time. If this position didn't fit in the budget or what have you, you could've gave me and other interviewees a heads up this position is not quite determined. I don't know something that would not get our hopes up or waste our time and money for an interview. I say this to say that this was really unprofessional and I would never want to work for this Y because of their flaky ways. It's no harm to management because they have a secure spot but to treat candidates like this, it's no wonder the organization is losing out on major funding. The lost was truly theres and I thank God and the Universe for looking out for me. I truly saw how things are ran and it's a mess. I would have been overwhelmed and worked, working in chaos for well less than my worth.
