I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Y (YMCA) (Westfield, NJ) in Apr 2013
Interview
Met with the director of camp to interview with. Wanted to get to know my personality mainly and asked scenario questions like "what would you do if..." Filled out a packet worth of documents and signing almost every page. Rather excessive, but when working at a nonprofit and with kids it makes sense. Process took over a month including reference checks, drug test, background check, and payroll.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Do you like working with kids? What do you like about them?
Very casual, my interviewer kept things focused on my ability to work with children, public speaking, and working on a team. If you have any experience with working with kids, be sure to have some stories of how you have dealt with incidents relating to behavior.
Group interview with other canidates and panelists. Mostly get to know you style and situtational tasks. You will be interviewing alongside other canidadtes so make sure you stand out and seem unique. Howeer don;t overdo it and remain humble and willing to learn.
