Primary School Science Teaching Associate Interview

      Jul 7, 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Singapore
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at The Pique Lab (Singapore) in Jun 2023

      Interview

The interview for the position is probably one of the most stringent and selective process done for a tuition centre (but it also speak to their high standards expected) There are multiple rounds of interview (about 4 in total): 1. Submitting of your resume and application on the website (the HR will contact you if they are interested in your application, to prepare for the next round) 2. Presenting a section of a topic (be expected to cover/teach a section of a topic on the ipad without any references; but a topic guide and video will be provided) (If you have successfully impressed the HR during your 2nd round, multiple empty booklets about a P5 topic, teaching guide video, and teaching guides will be provided to ensure that you are prepared for the next round) 3. Mentorship Session (be expected to present t least half the topic in this session, be open to the feedbacks given by the mentor to aid you in the final stage) 4. Delivery Examination (Present the full topic without any reference or prompts) Some tips: - do listen to the teaching guide video (round 3 &4) carefully, it is best to adopt their questioning style - be open to feedback, and receptive to changes in your teaching style if need be!! Fret not, it may seem daunting but the team is really nice :) Definitely recommend clearing your doubts before each round if needed.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback! We’re happy to know that you’ve had a positive application experience with us. We do our best to set our teaching associate candidates up for success by providing them with all the information and feedback they need to excel in each application round — thank you for highlighting this! And you’re absolutely right that we’re very selective about the team members we work with. This really boils down to our belief in working with the right people so that all of us can grow together in our work here. We look forward to having you onboard our team! 🚀

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at The Pique Lab in Apr 2024

      Interview

The overall interview process was smooth. However, a staff redirected the fault of sending content to the wrong email by saying the erroneous email was extracted from my application (which was checked thereafter and found to be correct.)? I was informed one hour prior to the interview that the interview will be rescheduled, after asking the staff for the zoom link to the interview. Additionally, I was told to smile more? not sure why is smiling a requirement of the interview process.

Hello there, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! Please allow us to address some of the concerns you’ve raised to share our perspectives which we hope will enlighten you and apologise for the lapses on our end: 1. The content was sent to the email address that you’ve submitted on our application portal (GoHire). As with any job application, candidates do have the onus of checking their personal details for any submissions required by the company to avoid incidents where the candidate is unable to receive any communications from the company as intended. 2. With regards to the rescheduling of the interview, it is indeed a lapse on our end due to a technical error. We understand that it must have caused some inconvenience to you and we’ll do our best to ensure that this doesn’t happen for future candidates like yourself! 🙏🏼 3. During the interview (i.e. teaching demonstration component), we understand that you’ve asked for feedback on how you can improve your teaching delivery. Besides ensuring that our teachers can deliver the lesson content clearly and accurately, we believe the teaching engagement methods they use are critical in influencing the learning environment in a class. This is why we evaluate our candidates on their use of teaching engagement methods such as the usage of non-verbal cues (facial expressions, gestures, tone, etc.) to understand their potential for creating inviting and engaging learning experiences for our students. We understand this piece of feedback may not be commonly shared across the industry and we apologise if our intentions were not clear! We hope that this perspective has provided more context to our evaluation metrics. We hope that we’ve been able to address your concerns adequately with the above reply! If you’d like to share more feedback about your experience, please email us at talent@thepiquelab.com so that we can work together to improve our application processes for future candidates. Thank you! 😊

      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at The Pique Lab

      Interview

      1. Apply online 2. They will get back to you asking you to submit transcripts 3. Prepare for online zoom meeting mini teaching segment, they will send you the topic to prepare over email. They will also ask you some standard interview qns like "why do you want to join us" 4. If pass, you'll be asked to go for f2f interview where they will give you notes on a certain science topic and you are expected to teach exactly the way they teach. It is split into mentorship session and the final presentation. A lot of time is given to prep which is good. Overall, nice interview experience, they were friendly and helpful. But super lengthy process, I feel like I wasted my time since I was not offered a position. Also be prepared to make an effort to fit in their teaching style, they place emphasis on entertaining the students rather than mastering the content. If you have the passion for teaching, then go for it. If not, then maybe not waste your time. It's quite an atas tuition centre so the expectations are super high too. If you do manage to get in, then congrats because it seems like a fair and transparent place to work in.
