The opportunity to interview with The Beach Company was exciting and I was looking forward to it because of the high standards, level of excellence, and reputation that The Beach Company has within the local tri-county/Charleston area. Unfortunately, my interview experience did not hold to these same standards. I initially applied to the position in October 2020. I was contacted in January 2021 to schedule an interview. I was not expecting to hear from them and assumed they had either closed the position or moved on with other candidates. Their explanation for the delay was that they were just moving in to The Jasper in January (their new headquarters), the holidays, and the pandemic. I thought ok, well all of that was a known fact back in October when the position was posted, but I understood as things happen. When it came time for my Zoom interview, the interviewers were 30 minutes late to my interview so I sat on Zoom for about 45 minutes until my interview started - no apologies from them, not even recognition of the delay. It was clear, however, on the calendar notice and the email invite of the interview start time. Not the most impressive, but I took the extra time to review and prepare. The interview was okay - certainly not to the standards I had expected which would include an appropriate introduction, explanation of the open position in detail, how the position dovetails in to the organization, as well as the positive/not-so-glamorous attributes of the position so that the candidate has a clearer view of what a day in the life looks like. I ended up trying to get clarification to these questions myself in which they allowed ample time for questions. None of the questions asked were behavioral based questions (which seems to be the norm these days). The interview was scheduled for 30 minutes and lasted 1 hour. Upon completion of the interview, the interviewer stated directly to me that the position had been budgeted and approved, they were looking to hire for the position soon, that she would be in touch if the response wait time was longer than anticipated, and she would absolutely notify me if I would be continuing on in the process or if they decided to continue with other candidates. I thought that was courteous and honestly I expected that, but I appreciated her bringing this to my attention. I never heard back from The Beach Company a.k.a. ghosted. Not to hear back after preparing and giving my time for an interview is unfortunate, disrespectful, and unprofessional. I expect more, especially when this action/behavior is coming from the HR Director. It's not a good look and does not represent an organization well.
