I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at TaxAct in Nov 2018
Interview
I applied for a position of Full Stack .Net Developer at BluCora (TaxAct) in November this year through an agency. As part of the hiring process I need to complete a “Software Engineer Questions document” to be reviewed by the hiring manager , I was informed. I liked those questions and completed the answers referring to my previous and current project experiences , while spending considerable time with details. The submission was accepted. For the next telephonic interview, I had to wait for around one week as the team was busy , I was informed.

Question 1
The telephonic interview started with the interviewer telling me that he had received my Software Engineer Questions document but it was not in front of him. I was taken aback – but was able to tell him that I prepared them with right earnest and could open the document. Afterwards there was not any questions from the other end and not sure what to do I began reading them one by one. Amusing as it already was to me, I also started reading the answers from the same document from my computer, relaying to the other end , listening to those same questions being echoed back to me. It continued for the next twenty minutes finally ending with – Do you have any question. To make sense out of these conversation , I asked the interviewer about the Web API , how TaxAct retrieve or consume the ever changing annual Tax rules in real time– the answer was that interviewer was new to the company, joined only recently and did not know much about Tax.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at TaxAct in Feb 2023
Interview
Completed 3 rounds of interviews after being recruited for the position on LinkedIn. After the final round (with their Director of Engineering), I heard nothing for several days. Upon follow up with the recruiter, I was told that the whole team agreed that I was a great fit for the position, but that their leadership team needed to “re-evaluate the position need”. Is this company so disorganized, with such poor internal communication, that they would complete an extensive interview process for a position that they can’t even agreed is needed? If I ever hear back, I will likely decline.
