      Presentation/Technical Writer Interview

      Jan 4, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Syncroness in Dec 2018

      Interview

I was called on Dec. 5, 2018 after applying, but I did not receive notice beforehand that I would be contacted for what was essentially a preliminary phone interview. The person I spoke with was amiable and responsive to my questions. I was asked to send my portfolio for review, which I did the same day. Dec. 6, I was contacted by the same individual and told the hiring manager liked my portfolio, and I was asked to create a technical PowerPoint presentation from scratch on any topic involving an aerospace, medical device, or robotic field. This was requested on a Thursday (Dec. 6) with a due date of Monday (Dec. 10) at the latest. I created a presentation and sent it Friday (Dec. 7). I received an email asking a question about the presentation that same day to which I likewise responded on the same day. Despite my efforts on December 11 and again on January 2 to email the individual who originally contacted me, I received no response and was, what felt like to me, essentially ghosted. If you are going to ask people applying to create projects to be considered for a position, please let them know the outcome of their efforts whether positive or negative. This shows professionalism toward and respect for those individuals who create the projects you request in order to be considered for an interview. Leaving people hanging and not responding in any way to their emails (especially after telling them to contact you with questions) portrays an image that you do not value these peoples’ time, and it also raises a red flag as to how your actual employees may possibly be treated.

We appreciate your time and effort you took when interviewing and completing the project for the role. As our company continues to grow we are consistently looking at ways to improve our interview process in which sometimes can be lengthy in the current state. In this case, it did not help that the interview timing was during the holiday which extended the feedback loop while everyone was out for the holiday. One piece of our culture relies on work-life balance and we do not require anyone to work during this time frame so they can be with their families.
