      Manager Interview

      Jan 20, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Symetra in Dec 2024

      Interview

I was so excited about interviewing with Symetra!! I had been looking for months to align my skills with a role that I would be a great fit. I had Symetra in my top 3 list of target companies that I would love to work for due to the high reviews on Glassdoor and the company’s CORE VALUES. My experience with the hiring process is noted below. Applied 11/24; Interviewed with the recruiter 12/10, recruiter apologized for the delay – stated that the hiring manager and some of the teams were out unexpectedly which delayed the hiring process. Overall, the interview went great, I was told by the recruiter that I should expect a follow-up for the hiring manager interview by 12/20 at the latest. After hearing nothing, I followed up 12/20 - original recruiter was out of the office; went to back up recruiter received response on 12/23 – reached out to hiring manager, in addition received a response from the original recruiter on 12/24 after returning to the office - same response waiting on the hiring manager; I then followed up 12/31, 1/7 and 1/17 with original recruiter no response. This was a top 3 target company for me, now they are at the bottom of my list, this experience speaks volumes, and this recruiter represents your company brand. No matter the answer keeping a potential candidate updated good or bad should be the norm. Integrity, honesty and respect during an already taxing process should be a priority. Here is a reminder of two of your company's core values - We do what's right - every time and We're dedicated to excellence. Even though I am not a current customer or current employee – as a potential candidate (customer) you would imagine that these CORE VALUES would be at the heart of how you treat candidates during the hiring process. I have been a hiring manager for many years and I would ALWAYS follow-up with my candidates, it shows a level of integrity, honesty and respect for the time that the candidate took to be a part of the interview process. As a job seeker the silver lining is that I too have a choice.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for your interest in Symetra. First and foremost, we apologize for the delays and lack of communication you experienced during the hiring process. Your time and effort throughout this process are valued, and we deeply regret that we did not meet your expectations or uphold the high standards we set for ourselves. At Symetra, we strive to live by our core values of integrity, excellence, and doing what’s right—values we hold at the center of our work every day. It’s clear from your experience that we fell short in upholding these values during your hiring process. We understand how disappointing and frustrating this must have been, particularly when Symetra was one of your top target companies. We are reviewing the breakdowns in communication you noted and will use your feedback to ensure that we improve our process moving forward. Keeping candidates informed regardless of the outcome is a critical aspect of creating a positive experience. Again, we sincerely apologize for the frustration this process caused and truly appreciate your honest feedback. Thank you for considering Symetra, and we wish you the very best in your job search and future endeavors.
