      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at StorageMart (Hopkins, MN) in Feb 2018

      Interview

I had actually applied for the Assistant Manager position and Store Manager position. A manager flew up for several interviews he had scheduled. I met with him at the Hopkins, MN location to talk about a new location they were supposedly talking about buying in Chaska, MN. Of course, they were looking to fill both an Assistant Manager and Manager role here. By the end, there were several big red flags that popped up and made me no longer interested in working for this company. First, the two management openings I applied for were listed as being for the Hopkins, MN location. It was not until I talked with the manager over the phone that I learned the positions were not at all for the Hopkins location but rather for a potential new location in Chaska. Second, I had asked if the Chaska location was a pretty likely done deal and the manager responded back by saying he was 99% confident it is a done deal. I then asked what would happen if the deal falls through, where would these new employees work? His answer back was that they'd both work at the Hopkins location. This brings me to my third and fourth red flags. The Manager clearly mentioned that each Storage Mart location only has one Assistant Manager and one Store Manager. The Hopkins location already had both of their management positions filled, so if the Chaska location deal fell through, why would the company make an exception to have 4 management personnel for one location? The manager said they probably would not keep the 2 new managers there long. So naturally, I asked where would they go after? The manager never fully answered my question and clearly didn't want to say anything else about it. The fifth red flag is that I was told by the manager he will get in contact with me as soon as he was back home after his visit. Of course, he never did get back to me. I even went ahead and reached out to him to thank him for the interview, but I still did not receive a response back and it has now been over 2 weeks. My sixth red flag is that throughout the interview he kept saying how impressed he was with me asking such thorough and important questions about the role itself and what would happen if the deal did fall apart. He even kept saying that he was incredibly impressed by my previous work experience and that he could tell I would be a wonderful fit for the management role. What he had mentioned to me is not something you say to a candidate you really like but then never even get back to them about either offering the job or saying thanks but no thanks. Overall, I got a sketchy feeling after the interview and no longer trust this company in providing a well-grounded position. Another detail I want to mention is that the benefits this company offers are absolutely horrible. Only a week off paid vacation for a management position, going up to two weeks after two years. Also, their 401K plan is the worst one I have ever heard of being offered. Do not fall for them trying to trick you into thinking their 401K is the best ever. The manager continuously brought up how i will never find another plan being offered like theirs. I guess he was right with that, I probably never will find another plan like theirs because it's so awful. The position does require that you work at least 45 hours week. Starting pay was $17 an hour. The manager said he makes the work schedules and to expect having every Sunday off and then a random day during the week off. Long story short, don't expect to get two days off in a row.

      Question 1

Not many questions at all during the interview. Maybe they'll throw in a simple behavioral question.

Dear Candidate, I would like to thank you for taking the time to advise about your recent experience with StorageMart. We are very sorry that this was your encounter and we will work diligently to ensure this experience is not repeated. When adding to our team, we can assure you that we would not be in the hiring stages if we didn’t have a place for our potential team members to work. This should have been more effectively communicated during the interview process. Regarding our 401k program, we’d like to set the record straight as this is something we are quite proud of. StorageMart matches employee funds by up to 3 times their contributions. So if you contributed 3% of your pay, we would match it with 9% of company funds. Our plan is fully vested from time of enrollment and we offer both regular and roth options. It looks like we dropped the ball in responding to you after your interview. We know that your time is valuable and we apologize for giving you the impression of anything less than that. We will work with our team to make sure that mistakes like this do not happen in the future. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We take all reviews seriously and as learning opportunities for us to continually improve our practices. Thank you, StorageMart

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at StorageMart

      Interview

Online application, call back for interview with Regional Manager who passes on their thoughts to headquarters of company. Then human resources will call and do a phone interview with the candidate to determine if they are a good fit for the job and how much previoius experience they have for starting pay scale. If you move on to the next phase, there are physical copies of forms to fill out approving background screening/ drug testing that you email back to HR, after those results are returned then you may tour facilities in your area for a day and meet other employees before being placed with a training manager at a store to start the sales manager certification program.

      Interview

Phone call and then an in person interview. It was fairly simple process, with fairly simple questions, but the job itself is boring and not worth it. I would not recommend this job to anyone with post secondary education. There is no no grow n they lie to you to keep you.

Thank you for taking the time to review our interview process! We are sorry that your experience was less than positive. Our Assistant Manager position does not require a degree, as listed in our job postings. As we grow in size, our opportunities for growth increase, however some of them do involve relocation as our corporate headquarters is in Columbia, Missouri.
