      Stylist Interview

      Sep 22, 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Austin, TX
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Stitch Fix (Austin, TX) in Sep 2017

      Interview

This is for the Stitch Fix Austin. I applied to Stitch Fix in August of 2017 online. By the end of the month, I received another email that they wanted to interview me in person. I had 4 different dates to choose from, with several different times for each date. I was instructed to make a secret Pinterest board for a made up client, and to bring my lap top. Just an FYI, parking at the Austin location is rough. You'll have to pay to park and won't be reimbursed. It is hard to find street parking, and garage parking will cost around $10-15. You're asked to arrive 10 min early, but I would plan on being there even earlier, since it might be a long walk from your parking to the building. There were 4 other people there to be interviewed at the same time as me for the stylist position. We were asked to write a note to our client explaining why we picked out the clothes for her that we did and how to style it. After the 10 minutes were up (this is why you are supposed to come early), we each went into our own tiny room with two interviewers. The interview was a bit more difficult than I imagined it to be. Both ladies were polite yet really hard to read. They never gave me feedback or affirmation for me answers (I assume they were just trying to be objective). I first watched a 4 min FAQ video about Stitch Fix while they went over my resume. This was awkward, as they were whispering to each other about me while I was sitting right in front of them. I wanted to say, "If you have any questions, please ask me!". Strangely enough, I wasn't asked one question about my resume! After the question portion, I was asked to style 3 different articles of clothing. This was fun, but my thoughts were definitely everywhere. Once I made it clear that an article of clothing would be for, say, work, then they'd ask how I'd style it for a party. I'd say an article was for a preppy client, they'd ask how to style it for an edgy client. You get the idea. After my interview, they told me that I'd hear by a certain day whether or not I was hired, and indeed I did find out on that day. I then found out about training less than a week later, which is a few weeks away. Please note that pay is now $14 an hour.
