      Remote Stitch Fix Stylist Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Stitch Fix (San Diego, CA) in Jun 2016

      Interview

I applied for the remote stylist position about 7 months ago in Southern California. It was several months until I heard back, but I expected as much, because I'd read about other applicants' experiences online. Several months later, I received an email asking if I was still interested, which I confirmed. For the next 2 months, I received regular emails that were the equivalent of "Don't worry, we will get to you. We are still interested." Eventually they scheduled an interview. They gave me a list of dates and times, I picked one, and they confirmed it. They gave me an assignment to do before my interview: they sent me the profile of an imaginary client, and I had to make a Pinterest board with clothing I would send to them. They also asked me to bring two printed copies of my resume and a fully charged laptop (no tablets!) to the interview. When I arrived, they had me connect my laptop to the wifi of the office building we were in, and sign a NDA that mainly talked about not sharing secrets about SF technology. Then they asked me to write a note to my "client" about my Pinterest board, and explain why I had chosen each item for her All this took about 15 minutes, after which I was sent to an office to meet privately with two stylists. Everyone was very upbeat, professional, and kind. They asked me several questions, had me talk through my Pinterest board, and had me talk about several items of clothing they had brought with them. I had to categorize each piece by style (bohemian, edgy, classic, preppy, etc.) and talk about the body type and age group each piece would work for. Then I asked several questions, which they did a great job answering. The whole process took almost exactly an hour, and was a very positive experience. I walked out of the interview feeling like I had a great shot at the job. They told me they would contact me at the end of the week, but I received an offer the very next day, and I start in 3 weeks. I'm not sure why so many people have taken issue with this interview process. I found Stitch Fix to be communicative, professional, and encouraging to me throughout the whole process. Just be aware that after you initially apply, it may take quite a while to hear back!
