First, I submitted an application online. I was called approximately a week or two later to come in for an interview the following week. The first interview was a panel consisting of about five faculty and two administrators, including the supervisor of this role. The first interview consisted of generic interview questions. No initial information was provided about the role; my questions were answered vaguely or did not have answers. I was also required to give a 10-minute presentation.
I was called roughly 2 weeks after and invited for a second "interview." I was asked to prepare a 40-minute presentation, with a 15 minute Q&A following. Five people total attended, including the supervisor of this role and the new Vice President of Academic Affairs. Was interrupted in the middle of my presentation by the VPAA, who abruptly stated, "Let me give you a reality check here."
Discomfort and acrimony between VPAA and faculty was obvious: VPAA curtly declared that all faculty would have to undergo the same rigorous training process; in response, a dean who was present responded by asking me, "Would the training you design take into account people who already know what they're doing? You wouldn't want to waste people's time, would you?" Other two faculty present were completely disengaged and seemed annoyed to be there.
I was then brought to the VPAA office, where I had a one-on-one with her. She spent a great deal of time complaining that most of the people at STCC "think they're experts" but don't know what they're doing. She spent an additional 10 minutes talking about how the campus was falling apart and doesn't have the right technology to achieve the goals she wants to achieve. She asked me the same question regarding my work experience and didn't seem to want to accept my answer. Her tone was abrupt and rude throughout. She ended the interview by saying, "That's all I have for you."
Overall, I left the second interview feeling disrespected, discouraged, and wary of involving myself with this team due to the VPAA's behavior. After 2 weeks of radio silence, with no response to two follow-up emails sent, I am now giving up on ever hearing from them, and am in disbelief at the lack of professional courtesy. I would not have accepted the position if offered.
