I had a phone interview with the Vice President of Marketing (Demand Generation) in April. It is now June and I have been messaging her at least once/twice a month to see about the status on the Content Marketing Manager position. No response. ..ever.

Process was abit slow. They start with a phone interview and then a one-to-one meeting before the actual interview. There could've been a panel, but they did not continue with it.

Interview
Great first round phone interview with VP. Poor second round interview onsite with panel of VPs. Unimpressed with lack of professionalism, especially with Senior Management at this level. Was asked in first round if had a problem reporting to a VP who knew less about Project Management, first red flag. Asked same question again by actual VP in second onsite, second red flag. Followed up by comment that didn't want employee questioning why at VP level not knowing Project Management methodology. Was shocked. Dodged a bullet here, nothing worse than reporting to a VP who has a chip on shoulder due to heightened business discipline insecurity with subordinate. Surprised at business model and current use of Project Management method within. Definitely not a fit and would reject offer. While initially excited about opportunity and company, unfortunately left unimpressed.

Would it bother you reporting to a VP who knew little or nothing about Project Management?
SmartBox isn't for everyone. We operate with a level of transparency that most companies don't offer and an expectation of maturity and professionalism that most candidates don't have. We acknowledge up front that we intentionally hire people who are professionals and bring a level of expertise we don't currently have. As Steve Jobs said, "“It doesn't make sense to hire smart people and then tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.” Some candidates can't put their ego aside and know more about their area of expertise than their manager and maintain a professional relationship. Those people are not good fits at SmartBox and don't get job offers here. Our interview process is designed intentionally to weed out poor cultural fits, and we appreciate this review reminding us that our process works.
