      Interview

Standard interview process with a few rounds, including meeting the HR, a second round, and a round with all the candidates in the room. Questions were a mix of past experiences and hypothetical situations. Offer was in line with industry standards as a fresh grad.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Singtel (Singapore) in Aug 2019

      Interview

Online assessments and video interview. Time allocated for each question (to think and to answer) is very short, and questions are quite surprising (not the typical behavioral questions). Successful candidates are invited to a full-day “assessment center”. I put the AC in inverted commas because it felt like a total waste of time. The AC began with a mini networking with a HR manager and a director-level person (about 30mins), before going into the business simulation. The business simulation is done in groups, and is about coming up with the full corporate strategy for a telco company and you compete against the other groups to have the highest revenue, profits etc. The simulation was quite fun and entertaining, as it was run by an external vendor. At the end of the simulation, there is a 2min solo presentation. In between, you will be pulled out for 1 to 1 interviews (with the fellas who networked with you earlier in the day). It felt like a waste of time because the only time any Singtel staff were around to “assess” you was during the mini networking right at the start, and during the personal interview. (Which basically every other company also does, but using a normal interview instead of a full day AC). Throughout the entire business simulation, which took the majority of the day, the Singtel staff were just doing their own work while co-sharing the room with you. No effort to assess or communicate with you at all. Now I would presume companies do ACs to see candidates in action, working in teams, thinking strategy etc but apparently these are just for the candidates enjoyment in Singtel’s case as they do not bother with assessing the candidates in these competencies at all. (The end result of your biz simulation doesn’t matter at all too because no Singtel staff were even around for the closing ceremony; throughout the 2min presentation none of the “assessors” were taking notes or anything either). Their entire AC is a farce and it should just be removed in place of interviews, because ultimately that’s what they seem to be relying on for their assessment. The AC seems to be included as part of the MAP application process to “up the game and prestige” of the MAP programme so that it appears more desirable to good candidates. Total waste of a full day.

      Interview

Assessment centre was held in a unique format, which felt more relaxed and comfortable. We sat in our groups and discussed the questions given to us and our examiners sat at a separate table evaluating us. The final group interview is with senior management and a few other candidates. Questions felt more at the discretion of the interviewers, so it might be the same with everyone.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Introduce yourself. Our thoughts on working from home. In a scenario where a subordinate does not want to attend a company event as they want to exercise their work from home day, how would you respond?

      Interview

Initially Video interview, group interview, final interview. Final interview is very casual but I dont think they are hiring alot of people. Also it takes relatively long for them to get back if you did not get an offer.

      Question 1

What do you think about remote work.
