I applied online. I interviewed at Shamrock Trading Corporation (Kansas City, KS) in Mar 2021
Interview
Had a phone interview with HR where some general questions were given like what I'm looking for in terms of my next position. Was a pleasant conversation.
After a couple weeks from the phone interview there was a Zoom interview with a couple directors where questions like what I've worked on at previous jobs and how familiar I am with React and AWS were asked. Was told to dress formally for this Zoom interview but the interviewers were dressed very casually. They were not the most talkative couple of people.

Interview
It was a few phone calls and zoom interviews. Mostly just questions about what I've done and things I've worked on. Overall it was a pretty relaxed interview, they were just trying to get to know me.

Interview
When I first applied at Shamrock I was very excited about the company, their culture, and their mentality around IT and the tools they were using. I had heard from other people in the IT community that the hiring process was flawed because of how much involvement that their Human Resources team has prior to even speaking with their IT team, but I felt that it would be worth a try because it seemed like a good place to work with a strong culture, great benefits and an exciting tech stack. What I found was that the process was even more flawed than I had been warned about. I was asked odd questions about my work history which were more about the people I worked with than about technical information or projects. When asked about why I had left previous positions my answers were met with disapproving tones and overall was not a comfortable conversation. The feedback that I received was even more shocking than the interview. I was informed that my tech stack was too old for what they were looking for (things like Angular, Bootstrap, React, and AWS) and that I would not be a good cultural fit (kind of an odd conclusion since I had never met anyone from their team). At this point, I was ruled out as a candidate without ever having a conversation with anyone from the IT department after a 20 minute call with an HR recruiter who did not understand technology.
