      Medical Assistant Interview

      Oct 18, 2010
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sentara Health in Oct 2010

      Interview

I submitted my resume online for a medical assistant position. About a week later I received a phone call from Sentara's education and training representative and she informed me she received my resume and asked basic questions such as what did I wish to earn and on a scale from one to ten what would I rate my customer service skills. Once the telephone interview was complete, she scheduled a 1 on 1 interview with another person in the human resources department, in which I received an email with the time and day and directions to the location. I arrived at that interview the following week and the lady interviewing me was very nice and approachable. She asked me questions such as how much I expected to make, my work experience, if I had experience with patient triage, phlebotomy and injections. The interview lasted only about 10 minutes. Once it was complete, she said she would forward my information to her boss for review and I should here something from them within 3 days. She also gave me a brochure going over Sentara's benefits. Three days passed and I received a phone call from one of Sentara's physician offices. The lady that contacted me had received my information from the human resources department and was very interested in scheduling a 1 on 1 interview. I arrived to this interview the following week. The interview took about an hour and a half, in which she asked me questions, quizzed me on anatomy (pertinent to the area I would be working in) and medical terminology, gave me a scenario involving customer service in which I had to answer two things I would do and two things I would not do, discussed the mandatory 8 week orientation process, and gave me a walk-thru of the clinic. Afterwards, she scheduled me with a final interview with her boss.
