      Implementation Engineer Interview

      Feb 3, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Pittsburgh, PA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at Seegrid (Pittsburgh, PA)

      Interview

I've actually had 2 interview experiences with this company, one for the "Applications Engineer' and another more recently for an "Implementation Engineer" role. Both times were negative experiences. The interview for the Applications Engineer position was a couple years back now. It was pretty straight-forward with an initial phone screen followed by an on-site interview. The on-site interview was pretty standard at first with introductions, a tour of the facility etc. I met/interviewed with a handful of people, including someone who was remote via a conference call but on-site. Questions asked were pretty standard as well regarding background, education, work experiences etc. Then it got a little more unconventional. I was asked on the spot to perform some more challenging questions relating to applied mathematics, trigonometry, and physics. Being an engineer and an engineering role this isn't totally unacceptable and I could see why they'd want to test a candidate on this. However in no way was I made aware beforehand I would be asked these types of questions and I was put on the spot. I fully admit I was nervous and failed to answer them to the best I probably could have. To go further I was even asked to make a paper airplane and throw it during the interview. Maybe some find this unique and fun, however for me it just made for a very odd interview experience. The interview lasted about half a day (~4 hrs) total. I never received an offer. I was not too upset about that fact. What I was upset with was that I was completely ghosted. I was never formally informed one way or another, despite following up on my end on more than one occasion. Fast forward to the "Implementation Engineer" position. I was actually recruited for this position from a 3rd party staffing agency (whom I've worked with before) due to my prior work experience and good history with them. I dealt through them directly never once speaking to a Seegrid employee. Upon submitting my now updated resume with very relevant and qualifying experience, I waited to hear back. Weeks went by which turned into months with no update despite both me and the recruiter trying to get updates. Eventually the recruiter informed me that I would not be considered for the position with no specific reasons given by Seegrid. Final conclusion, I have had nothing but negative experiences with this company and they're putting up a ton of red flags in my opinion. Perhaps I am just an anomaly and hopefully others have much better experiences than me.
