Question 1
Tell me about yourself, what do you know about STFC, why do want to apply for this position?
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Science and Technology Facilities Council in Nov 2023
Interview
Starts with a long online application process, with a required cover letter explaining your motivations / qualifications in detail, with atleast a months wait to find out the next steps.
Progresses to an online Zoom interview (although other interviews here describe different processes, seems like it varies a lot) with 2 interviewers with no webcams as per their organisational rules, which lasted around 20 minutes.
Questions were mainly about the role and your motivation to apply, with technical questions being less about knowledge depth in certain topics but more general programming such as OOP concepts. These questions however were worded in ways that seemed vague enough to the point where I was asking for clarification multiple times, even though I would answer a question correctly. (see questions below for examples).
They also did not ask any followup questions from my answers, nor did they ask me the typical interview questions such as "tell me about yourself", or anything specific from my CV / cover letter UNLESS it related to the job specification. Weirdly enough they asked if I had leadership experience when it was already pointed out on my CV.
Overall the interview was fairly poor, the interviewers didn't come off as very enthusiastic about their work, and almost felt robotic at times.

Question 1
Question along the lines of "how do you write your code"
Typical competency type questions, although specifically I got asked about leadership/management experience, which then went into any accomplishments/failures.
