Beverage Training Manager & Operations Manager (Posted online) Interview

      Apr 6, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New Haven, CT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Sally's APIZZA (New Haven, CT) in Apr 2024

      Interview

Before I start the review I think I should add some key points on my background and what I have done through my experience. I don't claim to be an expert by any means with over 21 years of food and beverage experience and with a consistent record of success. Also if I were to be ask what past employees and co workers thought about me , Im confident that it wouldn't be anything negative, however, at this point in my career I feel as its my personal duty to inform future applicants/candidates about experiences I have delt with in different capacities, I feel as if this knowledge is gold for anyone, Sallys APIZZA is a company's in there infancy with multiple locations slated to open. I hope this gives a good sense of what is going on already, Again this is to give future applicant knowledge so they may make an informed decision, of employment at a company, so they can "sniff out" any non-sense of the establishment. Also I did take the Interview while I was still employed. however, I'll get into the application submission later lmao!!!!. I by no means want to discourage anyone from pursuing this company but hopefully this gives some people a firm perspective. Ounce a person gets past a big name and fancy titles. Im sure there are tons of applicants that would be a good fit with Sallys Apizza. Remember were just serving food and drinks here I don't see a Michelin star coming anytime soon to Sallys APIZZA . 1st Red flag 😄 The posting for the position was done around middle of January 2024. I did submit it around that time. I received a a email from a recruiter about 3 months later. From my experience most applicants will already be seeking an opportunity within a month or so depending on that person circumstance. I was a little confused why the recruiter is setting up interviews now, could be multible variables, either they weren't ready to hire or was just lazy and could not get the post down. I seem to believe the latter, just seems odd. The initial email was sketchy, you would think that the recruiter would know how to send a correct email or call a person to set that up however, I notice that the person name starts with "J" couldn't grammatically end an email effectively. Just said "sincerely" at the end. Although a small detail every email or message I have ever sent I always let the recipient know who I am, also to potentially bypass any spam. 2nd Red flag 🤦‍♂️ I set up the meeting for later in the evening. There was another person cc on the email to be attached on the meeting. I promptly signed on to the virtual meeting.I waited about 5 minutes with out a call or text, almost just left the meeting, Then when they finally logged in, to see it was a woman and a gentleman with his first name "B". Now.. by this moment is when I knew that I should have just disconnected ... for me that set the tone for my experience, to not value my time and offer a real apology was concerning for the firm. 😄 the virtual Interviewers was late...!!! Im empathetic to anyone because things happen, but just by looking at both body languages of the two individuals they seem to not care and wasn't really enthusiastic in offering an "apology: The young lady did say sorry however, Mr 'B" didn't speak at all seem more fixated on something else other than the meeting. At this point I was just taking notes on how incompetent they were. LMAO 3rd Red Flag 😒 McInnis Inc. Milford, CT (FIRM) This seems to be the firm doing the onboarding and hiring for the company. Which Sally APIZZA is LLC under LINEAGE HOSPITALITY OF NEW HAVEN, LLC. Now this information you can find under the secretary of state website it is open to the public. Also the department of consumer protection can assist im sure. The company seems to be headquartered by an "accountant" @ GENE H LEVICK & COMPANY ( Pennsylvania-based investment consortium called “Lineage Hospitality) again DCP can always help. Now that we have some more back round and Information I will list below a (online recruiting website) mission Statement from (McInnis Inc.) I just would think twice before hiring this company for any firm" "McInnis Inc. Our Human Resource element can consultant or outsource your HR needs. From updating an employee handbook, to handling a critical incident, to hiring and firing, we have the expertise to help you navigate your business world." 😂 (no thank you) 4th Red Flag 😘 After doing some more research it seems like the company has been in multiple litigation in , potential byers before linage hospitality, former employees,. I recognize that having a business can have a lot of liabilities under it but, ill list some cases below where you can read what lineage hospitality has already been involved with. -Al dente LLC et al, Docket # NNH-CV15-6056847-S 😒 -Quinten Lawler et al Docket # NNH-CV-22-6121486-S 🤦‍♂️ Continued.... 5th Red Flag Ending 🐍

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

5th Red Flag (The actual interview) “Ms J” the recruiter asks me what seems to be S.T.A.R. type of questions. I just couldn’t follow her because she didn’t seem to look like she read my resume beforehand and seemed unprepared, she couldn’t even pronounce some words lol. Every question made no sense??? I’m sorry but if you’re going to recruit a position at least have some knowledge in what this individual will be doing and what capacity/scope they are applying to. I proceeded to answer the questions while waiting for “Mr B” to at least introduce himself. Again, sets the tone for the “company” I just want to know who you are and why you are in this meeting. This is the transparency that I believe most firms want to portray. At least I thought however, from my knowledge these two are hired by “lineage Hospitality”. I couldn’t tell you going forward what McInnis Inc will contribute down the road. After researching the company, it seems to be very “Green in the corporate structure” The senior management team are posted on LinkedIn and can easily be located. The background is impressive but nothing that staggering. I’m sure they are great managers. The final part was going overcompensation and benefits, All I remember was $65,000 annually for this roll, and travel for multiple sites. They stated would give two weeks PTO in the first year, and some form of 401k and Travel expenses which seems to equate to gasoline, and what I believe to be $300 monthly… There were some others but at this point I was not engaged and wanted to at least be pleasant to the end. There seems to not be any kind of bonus structure or ways to incentivize someone in this role. However, the managers that would be in the store such as BOH, FOH, etc. would have a bonus structure which is very good. I didn’t ask what this salary was because if this roll was paying$65,000 to travel and head to multiple locations I’m sure, it would have been less attractive. I had an opportunity to ask a few questions “Mr B Finally gave some input and was able to give me some insight of the company and culture if there is any lol. In closing I hope any potential candidates that read this use the best judgment and know their value as an employee and pursue an organization that will value that. Or at least in an interview give the perception you care. I just hope Lineage Hospitality will “do better” so they can stay successful long term.
