      Education Advocate Interview

      Feb 11, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at SCCS (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2011

      Interview

The setup of the interview went smoothly as the Human Resources personnel informed me they were looking to fill the position quickly so from the time I applied, offered an interview, and interviewed was about 1 month's length in total. The actual interview consisted of me filling out the paper application and as the field is Social Work I was asked questions about Medicare and Medicaid and was asked to complete an assessment of my ability to create Treatment Plans. I must say in my previous position I was performed Master's Level clinical assessments as I was expected to, was trained how to do so and did so very well as my Performance Review states. I completed the assessment as I had previously done although the space provided was not enough to go into length as I am trained to do. I interviewed to with two African American females, one about in her 50's the other in the 30's. The older woman was coaching the younger interviewer as to how to asks questions and what to listen out for in the answer. I personally liked the energy of the older woman who demonstrated a higher understanding of the Social Services field. She asked me the names of different diagnosis and the names of medications used to treat them. The interview was followed by a tour of the building. The building was a rather large store front area on the South Side of Chicago that was not adequately used as it had alot of open floor space. The building was rather chilly and I concluded that heating such a large space for a nonprofit would be difficult. There was limited staff in the building and was shown the offices of the staff of that building, which were very few. There did not seem to be alot of work being done in the office and there was no sense of urgency to accomplish tasks. I completed the interview and the following week was offered the position of Education Advocate. Unfortunately, the interviewers failed to inform me that this position was basically that of a volunteer. During the interview I was informed the "State of Illinois sometimes pays the nonprofit late", I was not made aware that I would begin work in October 2011 and not receive compensation for the month of October until January 2012!
