      Marketing Executive Interview

      Jan 12, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Royston

      Interview

Two-stage interview. First stage was great, essentially a long chat. Relaxed and productive. Second interview was bad. It felt like a shakedown, I think the second interviewer was attempting to ask pointed questions but it came across as trying to trip me up. It did not send a great signal of the workplace culture, nor did it put me in a mindset where I felt like joining. I frequently felt like I was defending myself, rather than having an interview. One statement stood out “I don’t like hiring people who bounce around from place to place after staying a year”. My CV does not look like this so I don't know why it was brought up. Considering the kind of questions asked, I would have been tempted to fire back with some in a similar style: “I’ve been looking at lots of other companies, some with excellent opportunities, pay and benefits. Why should I come work here with you?” but the mood of the meeting gave me the impression that to ask anything even vaguely interpretable as combative would have cost me the position.
