I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Ropes & Gray
Interview
Standard law-firm hiring and interview process, with no surprises here. Ropes tries to match the market in all respects, and does so when admitting or selecting new law students to its summer class. They provide perhaps less flexibility than other firms in terms of permitting incoming summer associates to choose their office location, but this shouldn't deter anyone.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What practice group do you want to work in (difficult because, when you're in law school, you're exposed to almost none of the practice areas in which big law firms work).
I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Ropes & Gray (New York, NY)
Interview
One Screener. CB was four 30-minute interviews. Two were partners and two were associates. Got a rejection 4 weeks after CB. I assume I was a second-choice but who knows.
The interviews day is a long day but with friendly people. All very smart, looking for good fit rather than drilling on any subject matter. Be aware that the lunch is part of the interview.
Screener then call back - each interviewer has about 20-30 mins where they ask various skill based and personable questions. It was a very relaxed setting & they really just want to get to know you.
