      Senior Frontend Engineer Interview

      Sep 4, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Reedsy in Aug 2025

      Interview

**PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING** When I first applied for the role I read the previous negative reviews which did not inspire much confidence, however I made the decision to give it a chance as bad reviews are not always merited and can sometimes say more about the reviewer than the company. I was WRONG and should have trusted my gut feeling and used the previous review and followed their advice. Their negative experience was 1 year ago and looks like I have experienced the exact same, even though Reedsy commented on this review to explain they would use it to better the process. Nothing has changed by the looks of it which suggests their comment to be very 'hollow' and borderline 'passive aggressive', which tells you everything you need to know about this company. The interview process I went through is exactly the same. A huge amount of work required considering time effort when I have other responsibilities, not to mention you are not getting paid for this (they state you get compensated if hired but there is no guarantee of getting hired regardless of what you produce). Whoever reviews the code you provide is clearly expecting production ready code that fully aligns with their coding culture and preferences. Every engineering team in the world has their own culture and methods and preferences which developers ADAPT to when hired (think linting, formatting, test coverage, comments in code, how you break down components etc). These are all things developers adapt to across engineering teams and company cultures, not second guess what processes and preferences a company has (except for Reedsy). I was actually penalised for doing extra work in a task, unbelievably this extra and above and beyond work was marked as a negative in their feedback. I have discussed and shown the entire task as well as my submission to fellow developers including senior level, tech leads and a CTO that I know and they are ALL baffled at their response and what exactly Reedsy expect from a candidate to show them they can build Vue applications. I have been a front end developer for over 15 years and never experienced anything like this and hopefully never again. Do yourself a favour and read the reviews and trust your gut instinct and avoid this company (unless of course you are prepared to spend 20+ hours second guessing their coding culture and personal preferences). I am not writing this out of anger because I was rejected (I now feel I dodged a bullet) I sincerely hope this helps others from making the same mistake I as well as others before me made and waste valuable time and energy that could be put to better and more productive use. Someone from Reedsy 'might' reply to this with the usual automated response they have used with others, but the fact there are more than one negative review, saying the exact same thing a year apart should tell you everything you need to know! Good luck
