      Executive Assistant Interview

      Mar 25, 2026
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Reed Smith (Chicago, IL) in Feb 2026

      Interview

I was offered a position and fully prepared to begin working, only to have the offer rescinded over what I consider a minor and non-malicious oversight regarding the timing of an employment status update. At no point was there any intent to mislead. This was a simple human delay in communication—something that could have easily been clarified or corrected with a conversation. Instead, the situation was escalated and treated as if it were a serious breach, which ultimately resulted in my offer being withdrawn. What stands out most is the lack of reasonable judgment. There was no attempt to understand context, no flexibility, and no effort to work through something that was clearly correctable. The response felt disproportionate to the situation. Based on this experience, the environment appears to be extremely rigid and process-driven, with little room for human error or discretion—even in cases where the issue is minor and unintentional. Candidates should be aware that even small timing missteps in communication can lead to immediate disqualification, regardless of overall qualifications or readiness for the role. While the firm may be reputable, my experience with the hiring process suggests that it prioritizes strict adherence to process over fairness and reasonable interpretation of human error. Overall, this was a disappointing experience, especially after investing time and effort into the process and being prepared to contribute at a high level.

      Executive Assistant Interview

      Feb 6, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Pittsburgh, PA
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Reed Smith (Pittsburgh, PA) in Jan 2013

      Interview

Met in one sitting with local HR director, secretarial services supervisor, principal manager and a paralegal. As this was a support position for a notoriously difficult practice group leader and because they were desperate to quickly fill the position for which I was potentially the fifth person in five years to hold, I had an offer in hand the same day.
