It was disappointing. I didn't get any chance for a technical conversion, it was a simple get to know me interview. I then got shoehorned into a tech test, instead of being asked about my work portfolio. The tech test was too long, it took 4 hours. Upon completion the feedback I got was minimal. It was why have you done this like that, followed by its not what we are looking for, bye. That is not the correct way to conduct yourself at all. Feedback must be constructive. What did you like? What didn't you like? There was nothing on the quality of the code at all. That kind of feedback could destory someones confidence. I'm a really good developer and have a really strong portfolio of work. If you looked at it you would have seen it. If you'd had a technical conversation you would have noticed it. Instead you've shot yourself in the foot with poor hiring policy that shoehorns people into working for free for 4 hours.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Are you okay working for an agency having a mix of project work and support
Sorry to hear you felt disappointed by our recruitment process and we'd like to discuss your feedback with you personally so please reach out and we'll arrange a call to go through it.
Our process is pretty standard for our industry and one we've been following successfully for a long time now. We always start with a 30 minute chat to see if the role is right for you before we get too technical. If the role is right, we ask all applicants to perform the technical test which we discuss internally before the final interview involving our technical teams.
We regularly speak with developers and therefore need to ensure they are at the right skill level for the specific role before we involve the tech team.
We do provide feedback on all tests via the external recruiter, but sometimes this may not always come across to you so please reach out and we'll be happy to provide more feedback if required. Candidates do often request more specific feedback which we are more than happy to do and have done on many occasions.
Unfortunately, technical tests are a vital part of developer requirement and standard place in our industry.
We'd like to make this right for you, so please get in touch via the recruiter and we'll happily run you through things.
