      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 7, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Prosper.com (San Francisco, CA) in Dec 2015

      Interview

Interview process was straightforward. I had worked with a Senior Engineering Leader who was already at Prosper so I did not have a Phone Interview. The recruiter called me to understand more about me, and gave me a lot of information about Prosper and got me excited. I gave them availability for onsite interviews and it was scheduled within the same day. For the onsite interview, I was sent the list of interview panel beforehand. It had a set of Senior Engineers and a Senior Engineering Leader and the Recruiter who had talked to me over the phone. The technical interviews were challenging. It had questions on programming knowledge and Algorithms and Data Structures. There was a Design exercise involving Service oriented architectures too which was a lot of fun. Interviewers were friendly and knowledge-able and it was intense but fun. Loved the office vibe. The energy was palpable. The interview with the Engineering Leader was about my background, projects I liked working on, and answering questions on Prosper culture and frank exchange on the challenges on culture.

      Question 1

Building a microservice. How to design it. How to build it. Design choices. What to watch out for. RESTful interfaces.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      May 10, 2024
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Prosper.com (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2022

      Interview

I went through 4-5 rounds of interviews for a full-time role, meeting with a project manager, project lead, backend developer, frontend developer, and HR. Initially, the fast-paced work environment was manageable, but it soon became miserable. The manager was strict, and we were given a heavy workload with tight deadlines. We were required to complete a large number of story points every sprint, and the manager would closely scrutinize our time estimates. If we estimated a certain amount of time based on our experience, the manager would consult with a senior developer who had been with the company for 8-9 years, and they would inevitably estimate a significantly shorter time frame. The manager would then change the points, and if we disagreed, we would be asked to break down each story point hour by hour and justify our estimate. Completing a single ticket was a nightmare, and the manager would constantly belittle us. There was no respect. Eventually, most of my team members quit, which I discovered later when speaking with them.

      Question 1

Initially interviewer discuss about the company, and I shared my own background. Either in the 3rd or 4th round (I'm unsure which), I was asked to solve three Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) questions within a one-hour time frame using JavaScript . All in all introduction and understanding of each question all together took ~15 mins. In addition to solving the problems, I had to explain my code. Realistically, it would be extremely challenging to solve three medium-level LeetCode problems while explaining the code within that time frame.
