contacted by HR three times which made me wonder if they ever took notes at all. was told that they would forward resume to hiring manager, never heard back, then got a call again as if nothing happened. worst experience with this firm ever

Very simple. They were very desperate for a PhD to fill a role. I was asked little to no serious questions. In fact, I was offered the position before I visited, over the phone, on a second call.
