      Intern Interview

      Aug 20, 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Powell Tate (Washington, DC) in Jul 2014

      Interview

FIrst you send a resume and cover letter, along with two short essays. At this organization, having an internal referral is crucial for getting your resume looked at. Then you may be called for a 45 minute interview with HR (very pleasant). Finally, you may receive a complicated writing test that takes an entire weekend to complete. The application process is almost as rigorous as that of an entry level job. While I have heard the actual internship is great experience, very few interns ultimately get hired full time (i.e. maybe one or two). Seems like a wonderful experience for undergrads, but puts post grads in a precarious position. They capitalize on hiring eager, highly qualified post-grads for what is essentially an entry level role with no benefits or job security.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Powell Tate (Washington, DC) in May 2015

      Interview

There was one 45 minutes phone interview with the HR manager. Asked a lot of the basic questions you would expect and she was super nice. She just wanted to get a feel for your skills and interests. Said they wanted someone who is a good writer passionate with a type A personality because they all work really hard there.

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself? What is your biggest accomplishment? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? What is the best advice you have ever been given?

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Powell Tate (Washington, DC) in Mar 2015

      Interview

Very simple. Application online required two essays and the usual resume, cover letter and related materials. The essays were clearly meant to illustrate that you were a clear and cohesive writer. Afterwards, I received a phone call from Human resources. They asked a handful of standard behavioral interview questions, and that was it. Received an offer the next day.
