      Director of Support Interview

      Aug 21, 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Postscript in Aug 2024

      Interview

Intro Call: You’ll hop on a quick call with the Recruiter so we can get to know you better — and you can learn a little more about the role and Postscript. The initial call was fantastic- Hannah was very personable and knew how to properly structure an interview. It made me excited for the next steps and I was confident I would move to the next round. Hiring Manager Intro: You’ll hop on a quick call with the Hiring Manager so your future Manager can get to know you better — This is a great time to learn more about the team & position. This was unfortunately awful. The hiring manager was the president of the company and it took two weeks to get scheduled, then he canceled on me to reschedule due to illness. Understandable, things happen, however after waiting two weeks it felt a little disheartening. From an operational perspective, if his schedule was difficult to coordinate, perhaps it would have made sense to move the process along by rearranging the order of the interview process. I moved meetings to attend the rescheduled interview, and he showed up 18 minutes late. I did receive an email around 5 minutes late from his assistant letting me know, but by that point I knew this was not a good place to work and not someone I would like to report to. As expected, Alex showed up to the interview and barely apologized, was disengaged and distracted, asked a few low value questions, and shuffled me off the call without making up the time he missed, asking if I had some more time to chat, or apologizing and saying he had a hard stop. As a seasoned hiring manager, even if I know a candidate is not a fit, I still treat them in a supportive manner and aim to create a positive experience- they took the time out of their day to be there with me, and deserve my attention. I am sharing this feedback because while I am deeply fortunate to be currently employed and in several other rounds of interviews that I feel good about, I’d like to remind Postscript that many, many people are currently unemployed and each interview they secure is a ray of hope that things could get better for them. This negative experience, while annoying for me, could have absolutely crushed someone who was looking to this opportunity as perhaps their only current chance to secure a role. It’s no secret that things are tough out there, so I would encourage some reflection, empathy and basic respect in your interview process moving forward. The interview process, like most in the current market, is extremely long with multiple steps, including an assignment and a panel interview as well as a values interview and they ask to speak to two references prior to an offer. Additionally, the pay scale offered was 15-30k lower than a director role range. Run.
