      Product Manager Interview

      Interview

-Timely. From when I submitted my application online to onsites took <3 weeks. -The HR contact was very responsive in scheduling interviews and flexible to my schedule for when I came onsite. -I had a 30 minute phone call first, before getting feedback with ~3 days on the next round of interviews. I came onsite for 3 back-to-back interviews, overall lasting about 3 hours. I spoke with team leads that I would work closely with, including data, production, design, and the co-founders (CEO and CPO). -The interviewers were polite and aimed to give me a sense of the company and its path for growth. I also was able to learn about the PM position within the context of the greater team and what that opportunity presented (which was the ability to make a huge impact, along with every other role in the company, at a crucial stage to the company's growth). -I also had follow-up questions that came to mind after the onsite interview/offer, and the HR contact was able to pass my questions along to the right individuals. I was able to chat directly with the hiring manager on my questions. -I received the offer ~5-7 business days after the onsite interview. I had another opportunity on the table so the team expedited the offer process to help me meet timelines. I appreciated this as many companies can be very slow in responding and put you in an undesirable position.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

High-level questions about motivations: Why mobile gaming? Why PlayQ? Why PM? Specifics related to the PM role: How do I want to work with various teams (design, data, engineering)? What metrics are important to look at and why? Questions about my past experience: Talk about a feature or project I worked on, what the goal was, and what the results where. Also asked to explain big challenges or obstacles and how I navigated them.

      Interview

I interviewed at PlayQ in April 2018. AVOID AVOID AVOID. When I didn't get the job and I asked for feedback, the recruiter said over the phone I didn't "give in-depth answers to their case questions. " When I asked for specifics, she said that was all she could provide. The phone call was literally over in a minute (not exaggerating). Her response was, ironically, not in depth at all and anyone could have given that kind of bs answer. She also decided to call me instead of email probably because she didn't want things documented in writing. She could have easily saved my time by sending me a one to two sentence email. The interview also consisted of a take-home exercise with 9 questions. When I arrived on site, all the interviewers gave me really good feedback on my deliverable and thanked me. With the way things turned out though, I almost feel like they "interviewed" me to take my ideas. This company is a 3-match gaming company that is way behind King (candy crush) and GungHo (puzzle & dragons) and are thirsty for ideas - so BE AWARE. They will take and take and leave you out the door after.
