      Front End Web Developer Interview

      Sep 30, 2018

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Oxford University Press (London, England)

      Interview

The company did not send any technical test. Instead of that I was asked to attend an interview. I was thrilled to have a chance with such a good named corporation. I expected amazing offices in London as Oxford University has an incredible reputation. Instead of that, I found their offices in an old building with residential flats or other companies upstairs. The workplace was very small and the interviewer tried to be very clear about the job duties and requirements. In the meantime I saw many employees working in very small desks like a kind of call centre. I noticed them because one of them was staring at me moving his head over his computer screen. Once the interview was progressing I heard more cons about this company such as the impossibility to work from home and I heard nothing about training or growing opportunities. It was not easy to ask one day off from my current employer just to hear that the selection process was going to take further steps before they could take a final decision. Fortunately, I didn't pass to the next step. At least in London, it seems like an start-up small company that was luckily bought by Oxford. The atmosphere does not seem very friendly there. I did not see happy employees. Work overload seems like a reality on a daily basis.
