      Digtal Marketing Manager Interview

      Oct 19, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cleveland, OH
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at OrangeOnions (Cleveland, OH) in Aug 2023

      Interview

I initially had a 15-minute screening with the CEO at the end of August (2023). He was over 7 minutes late to the Zoom but apologetic, so I decided to move forward. The interview went fine, and I felt like I got a good idea of their needs. I was invited to a second interview that was supposed to be the CEO and another team member. At the top of the second interview, the CEO began the script from the original call and asked me the same initial question. I gently said "Absolutely, as I shared on our first call..." he interrupted after a bit and remembered our conversation and asked if I would be okay waiting for the CMO–I was–and after a few minutes, they joined us. This person is seemingly the second in command. The interview went well; normal questions but a little more specific to my experience in marketing/comms. They’re both seemingly kind people who appeared interested and engaged. I was then invited to a third interview in person at their offices. I arrived early and saw the office space and products in person (extremely high quality, really great partnership products). When the interview started, there were minor tech/scheduling issues, so we waited a bit for a new team member to join. This interview went longer than scheduled, felt really personable, and I honestly left feeling really confident about the interview and our conversations. I didn't hear anything for two weeks. I then followed up with the CEO, and received an automated away message. I followed up with the CMO, who said they were actually "meeting about [my candidacy, I assume] this afternoon," she should be following up in a day. That was well over 20 days ago (42+ days since last interview). I'm extremely disappointed with their lack of follow-through, communication, and/or (lack) care for my time and energy. At this point, even if they do reach out, I don't have anything positive to share because of how I feel like the end of this experience was handled. It sounded like they were working hard to build a completely new marketing team (I asked a lot about management and turnover based on earlier Glassdoor reviews, and feel they answered transparently), and there are a lot of opportunities to help them grow and excel...but I don't see that happening at all if there is no care in even the simplest and smallest moments of engagement. The way you treat candidates after a SERIES of interviews matters. I don't mind if it's a "no," but I do mind that over four working professionals don't have the care or tact to follow up. I don’t recommend wasting your time with these people. I don’t know what they’re doing or why they’re posting available roles, but hiring doesn’t seem like their actual goal.
