      Senior Data Scientist Interview

      Apr 23, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Antonio, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Opendoor (San Antonio, TX) in Mar 2023

      Interview

I was Approached by recruiter for this position, i already work for a similar company as DS and doing similar modeling as product. After phone interview interview immediately invited to live coding interview, even I tried hard and requested go QA type interview, bcus even after years I still do not feel comfortable on live coding, A senior data scientist guy interviewed me and another senior research scientist just watched whole process on zoom. At the beginning i am first asked to answer ml modeling question in detail, at the beginning i was told i have plenty time to answer so i explained carefully and answered questions, i dis not make any mistake bcus i already do modeling for same purpose. Then i am given a dataset and asked to evaluate and make some conclusion, aggregation using python. I tried once and senior DS guy told me he does not have enough time so instead of coding just explain verbally. I do not think i said anything non sense but at the aame time due to time limit i do not think he carefully listened or asked me proper questions to explain. I was expecting to at least go one more round but a day later I am informed to not continue. Felt like I was being interviewed but they already made decision to move with someone else. Not sure they did or position closed, bcus 2 days later I heard opendoor laid off 22% of workforce, even I asked questions about job security and they said they already laid off people, still laid offs happened again.
