I applied and after a few days on the weekend late at night I got a message from the hiring manager regarding a design test. She said she wanted to see how I’d apply my skills to her company. Which is fine. But she asked for 3-7 Instagram stories about their new product. And she said the project should tell a story about their product. I asked for when it’s due she said tomorrow. So a 1 day turn around time for 3-7 pieces. No interview first. I felt like this was unprofessional to ask for such a short turn around time without even seeing if I was a good candidate. A design test should come towards the end when they’ve narrowed candidates. It also felt strange it wasn’t for a previous product but for a new upcoming product. It felt like handing over free designs for them to use when they launch their product.
