      Operations Manager Interview

      Nov 30, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at OLIO in Sep 2023

      Interview

      1. First round interview - casual 30-minute chat 2. Second round interview - presentation: 15 min presentation on a relevant topic 10 min questions on the presentation 15 min task on the spot - this will be a spontaneous exercise 20 min general questions from both yourself and Olio 3. Another interview There were a number of things that were wrong with the interview process and company practices that made me regret wasting my time and efforts with applying for the role. Extensive preparation was required for the long 2nd stage interview. I dedicated at least 8 hours thoroughly preparing and practising for this stage in order to ensure I properly address the complex issues outlined in the presentation brief. Considering my deep passion for Olio's mission, my extensive preparation for this interview and my more than satisfactory work experience, I was surprised to receive overly positive feedback but not an invitation to the next stage. The feedback I received was encouraging: "Overall, we've been really impressed by your professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the application process. We really enjoyed speaking with you; it was clear you had a thorough understanding of the Food Waste Heroes Programme, and it was great to see how you collated your ideas." However, the decision to proceed with an internal application raised questions for me. The rejection email indicated: "Please note we have decided to proceed with an internal application for this role." I appreciate transparency in the recruitment process, but this information left me puzzled, especially when considering that I was later invited to apply for a part-time Customer Satisfaction Agent role, while I had applied for a full-time position. I am disappointed to discover that the values promoted by Olio on their website may not fully align with the company's actual practices. It appears unethical to advertise a position publicly while internally reserving it, leading to an interview process that consumes significant preparation time and mental effort for external candidates. If my application was deemed unsatisfactory, I believe a more constructive approach would be to provide honest, specific feedback rather than overly positive comments without clarifying the reason for not progressing. I hope this feedback fosters a more transparent and respectful interview experience for future candidates.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on your interview experience for the role of Operations Manager. I’m sorry to read that you regretted your experience applying for this role at Olio. We usually advise that for a presentation, candidates should take no more than 4 - 6hrs in preparation. I’ll make sure to reinforce that with our hiring managers and ensure it’s highlighted on our internal hiring documentation. One of our values is about being resourceful. We hate waste of any kind, including time and money. We would not have gone through an external hiring process if we knew from the outset that we would appoint someone internally. It sounds like your presentation and interview were so good, that when we next had a role at Olio, that was shared with you because you were considered a great candidate, and we wanted to see if you were interested. Feedback like this helps us craft improvements to the way we do things so thank you again for your feedback and all the best in your job search. Cheers, Thaisa
