      IT Interview

      Jan 22, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at North

      Interview

Oh wow, where do I start...to put it simple, the process is all smoke and mirrors and they blow air to pad you on the back. So, as most others have stated here, you go through many interviews. I believe I had eight interviews including a group one where you're in the office for three hours. I am very fortunate that I was not made an offer as I did not have a good impression during the group interview, but I'll get to that in a moment. So first off, if they reach out to you and tell you you're resume was special or it was rare...well...they tell that to everyone. You are not special. They tell you you are, but all smoke and mirrors. They will say they haven't had a good applicant in over a month and give a story about how you're the one, but truth is, they have been seeing people all week. The company also really wanted to talk about the benefits of working there whereas I wanted to know more about the team, team dynamic and the relation to other teams. The phone interviews were a waste of time, they should have just called me into the office for group one after a initial one and that's it. So let's get to the fun part, the group interview! I'm not sure if this was just this specific team but what a gong show. Interviewer had zero technical background for a IT role to be able to answer my questions. They also had zero interest in being there at the interview with slouching and being very monotone. My! What a different tune from phone calls. Then you meet with the team..who had minimal tech experience (could not answer my questions) and I can see why this position was opened up or created. The way they were talking made it like it was combative with other teams to get their way. There was one line said that made me do a second glance look as working with other teams should be about having collaboration and reaching out based on their personality trait (which is turn would be based off your personality trait). Zero collaboration mindset. One person asked if I had any questions and they just got stumped. I'm prepared, why aren't you? With my follow up question, this person seemed annoyed that I asked another difficult question. Lastly, I had to do some tech challenge that had nothing to do with the role. And I aced it....but why? The role had nothing to do with the challenge and vice versa. It's like asking the co-founders why isn't there toilet paper in one of the bathroom stalls; makes zero sense. But I aced it and no offer (thankfully) was given. Needless to say, they sent their default rejection email despite passing the tech challenge that had nothing to do with the role for a position as none other member had any technical experience evidenced by not being able to answer my questions well. Do not buy into this atmosphere they toss at you and ignore anything benefit wise and giving you start dates and what time you're available to come in on a certain day. Unless you have a offer, in writing, do not believe anything that is said to you in person. It's all smoke and mirrors and I'm glad my personality did not meet that teams wants.
