      Virtual Health Coach Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Noom (Bend, OR) in Sep 2019

      Interview

The interview process was difficult in that timing is key. Since Noom hires on a rolling basis you have to jump on each step in the interview process as soon as the follow up email is sent. I responded to emails within the hour and signed up for the next available slot in the various interview steps. Most of the communication is auto-generated using a hiring software, so you can tell the emails are coming from the system vs. an active recruiter working with you. This definitely added to the stress a little, but this is the 21st century and recruiting is progressing right along with other technology. Here is how my experience went: 1. Applied via Linked In with a resume and cover letter on a Wednesday 2. Request for next steps received the next day, Thursday. This asked for a 1 minute video introduction of myself along with 4 coaching scenarios where you respond as if you were replying to a client. The questions are timed. I had 48 hours to submit both the questions and the video but I completed these same day by Thursday evening. They will remind you each step of the way that responding quickly is important as spots are limited. 3. Received an email the following Monday morning to set up an hour long mock coaching session. I signed up for the first available time the next day. 4. Completed an hour long mock coahing conversation on Tuesday. This was definitely the most difficult part of the interview process. They are looking for your approach to coaching and establishing rapport with a client. You are chatting back and forth with a Noom coach on google docs who is presenting fairly realistic dialogue. An hour after completion I received a request for a final interview which would be a 30 minute video conference with a member of the health coaching team. I signed up for an interview the next day. 5. Wednesday I did the 30 minute interview with a health coach. It was less behavioral than I had prepped for and was essentially a free-flowing conversation with a coach about my goals, background, interests, coaching style etc. 6. About an hour after my interview was completed, I received an email that stated I was qualified as a canditate and they wanted to move forward with next steps in the future when more positions opened. This was a little bit disheartening as they could not state exactly when positions would be opening in the future. I essentially had a job offer pending spots coming available. 7. The following week on Thursday I received an email with an unoffical offer with terms of employment and the opportunity to designate whether I wanted to accept. I accepted and it took until the following Tuesday to get an official offer letter to sign. The first start date was a month after I signed the offer. As far as interviewing the process took a week from when I applied, but the hiring process can take longer. This is normal and if you are told there are not positions at the moment hang tight because they are serious about giving you the position when the spots do come available! I was lucky in that it took about a week, but it can definitely take longer. Overall the process is stressful, but if you are experienced and have a friendly personality you just have to anticipate the process being a little cumbersome and removed. Be yourself!!
