      Graduate Operational Consultant Interview

      Nov 27, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Newton (London, England) in Nov 2018

      Interview

Group interview in group of 12: 1. Present your partner to the group - you have to find out interesting stories about your partner and introduce/present them to the group. Advice: Talk clearly, confidently and find interesting stories/things out about your partner rather than rattling off where they're from and what they study. 2. Group task - scenario whereby your group (now of 6) have all been in the field and got various different information from within a clients company and are tasked to collate the data and create a brief for your supervisor with intent on presenting to company board member. Advice: It's hard to gauge the scope of the activity because you're given a sheet with only one small portion of the data on it and no indication of how it links with other peoples data. You have to remain engaged in the conversation at all times (don't sink into background when your figures have been crunched) and it's very much about data manipulation and figures of how much profit doing X in conjunction with Y would yield in comparison to doing Z. 3. Re-do all the online tests in person. Advice: Bring your own calculator with you so you don't have to use one that you're not used to. 4. Case study test (individual) - watch a video on creating buffers around bottle necks on a production line, apply the concept on an upscaled real world example of bottle necking. Advice: Keep the video open and reference what you're doing as you go along. 5. Lunch - at this point you eat and hang around while they mark the tests and choose who goes through to the afternoon (i wasn't chosen to go through so can't say what happens then) They email individualised feedback to you a week after which is good and there were no surprises in the feedback - i knew exactly where i could have done better. The assessors are nice people and it's a pretty good environment - you're not competing directly against the other candidates so everyone chats and gets along nicely. They mentioned that alot of the people who get through have gone through the process of applying/interviewing a few times. Overall quite knackering but a good experience and glad i went.
