      Retail Sales Associate Interview

      Dec 19, 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Naples Soap

      Interview

The manager called me and sent an email. We ended up scheduling the interview within the following couple of days. It was one of the most bizarre interviews I've ever been on. She asked no personal questions about my past in retail or anything really. She did ask about my most positive and negative sales experiences. But otherwise... nothing. I was shown the notecards about the products, was told about the products, shown around the store, and that was about it. She talked a lot about herself, her daughters, flying for Thanksgiving, her former employer, and buying a new house.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us regarding your experience interviewing with our company. Let us explain further about why we conduct our interviews in such a manner. In order to be successful in the sales associate role, the candidate must have excellent communication skills. The key role of the sales associate is to educate our customer about our product and ask questions about them and their needs to determine which of our products would be best for them. During the interview process, there are a list of questions that we ask each candidate based on their resume and employment history. However, the most important aspect of the interview is how well the candidate communicates, as this will determine how well the candidate would interact with the customer. If the candidate seems nervous or reserved, we will often bring up past work experiences, if they are similar to the candidates past work history to open a line of communication to see if we can find some common element to converse about. We also take the candidate on a tour of the store so see their level of interest in our product and to see if they ask questions or can relate to our products. We are sorry that you feel that this was a negative experience, and we hope that our explanation of our interview process provides deeper understanding of why your interview was conducted in such a manner.
