      Intern Interview

      Aug 2, 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at NPR in Jul 2019

      Interview

I applied and was contacted two weeks later on a Friday for a first-round interview with someone directly on the team that I applied to. She was extremely curt and not super expressive - a little on the antisocial side. Towards the end of the interview she said that she had a 2 hour data test for me that needed to be completed by Sunday.... I had a work shift the rest of my Friday and on Saturday I was traveling somewhere 3 hours away and had to be up early in the morning so I asked her if I could do it Monday instead and she refused. Who gives someone something to do over the weekend without even asking if they have time to do it/on such short notice??? As an applicant too? I haven't even started working and they're already being disrespectful about my time.... I ended up working on it very late at night and got 4 hours of sleep before my trip on Saturday. What a joke. I got contacted by another member of the team 2 days after I submitted my data test asking for a second round. She was also very curt in her email and had a set of times that she wanted me to choose from. I responded saying I was not interested. If they can't respect my time as an applicant, imagine what they'd throw at me out of nowhere as an employee. I was totally turned off by how aloof/cold the two people that contacted me were and how inflexible they were. I would not want to be working with people like this, my summer would be miserable.

      Interview

It was a highly technical interview, there were no traditional interview questions. Posed hypothetical situations about copyright ownership and asked how you would respond or what advice you would give.
