      Project Manager Interview

      Aug 29, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Amherst, OH
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at NITOR PARTNERS (Amherst, OH)

      Interview

I interviewed remotely (no camera) with five different people. I never met one person face-to-face. One interviewer did the exact job that I was being hired for, two were functional, two were technical. Nobody tried hard to trip me up. I could almost see smiles coming through my laptop. The technical individuals and functional individuals did not ask me any technical or functional questions. The other project manager asked me relatively basic questions that any solid manager should know (PMP is not a requirement). I personally got the feeling that the interviews were more about cultural fit, such as, "Is he going to represent us well? Is this the guy we want to put in-front of a Client and lead a major project? Is he poised? Does he carry himself professionally? Is he smart and does he seem to know his subject matter and how to lead a team? Can he guide the process and our team of technical experts and functional experts?" That was it. Nothing more to the interviews. About 30-45 minutes each... Personally, this is conjecture, I believe that a good project manager should handle all of the other external items, such as reporting, project updates, briefing senior management, and delicately managing the Client relationship, so that the technical and functional experts can focus on their specialty with no outside noise or distractions. I couldn't get the feeling, also, that they wanted to see if they would LIKE working with me. Was I genuine, dedicated, friendly, humble, a solid human being...

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Give me an example, please, of either a significant project that you led or a favorite project you led. How did you go about developing plans? A shipment of pipe for a gas pipeline is going to be weeks late because of flooding rains which will put the entire project at-risk of finishing on-time and on-budget by a matter of months?
