      Interview

Terrible process, can't believe I actually made it as far as I did. I was asked to come in for an interview which was easy then asked for an assessment day. The boss introduced me to two other girls who already had the job who were incredibly stuck up telling me that I was lucky to even have an assessment day and they could send me home at any point. They made me pay for my own train ticket to Staines which I wasn't told previously and then asked me very personal questions about my life on the way there. They set you writing tasks such as 'tell us as many indirect marketing strategies as possible' and 'create a business plan'. As I walked into the shopping centre what did i see? The job is standing with a clipboard working for charities to try and get money off people.I completed the tasks sitting in a coffee shop for three hours while they 'worked' and checked on me. They told me the great plan that I wasn't allowed to know and it was the biggest load of rubbish ever. Promising me i would be earning thousands per week in only one year. Basically its all based on how many signatures you can get for charities setting up a direct debit, apparently its about 60 pounds for 4-6 signatures and as you move up, the more money. Now, how charities pay the company that much? It seems very bogus. The manager and employees seemed like clones who lived in a dream world that were incredibly rude and looked down on me the whole time.

      Question 1

create a business plan, why marketing, where do you want to be in ten years.
      Answer question

      Interview

Contacted by telephone by the administration lady, pleasure to speak to. Arranged an interview for later that day, met with Richard who ran the company, very approachable and a all round nice guy. Got a call later that day to attend a test/experience day the day after. Was a 8 hour day. The day reminded me very much like a school trip, spent the majority of it writing down different ways we interact with 'marketing'. There was some good insight into the theory behind the sales and the principles they work on, anyone with no previous marketing experience would gain a good insight into the role, however I feel it could of been 2/3 hours max. The main reasons I declined the offer were 1) They had a progression system which seems great, but in reality its not achieveable! The lady interviewing me on the second day said you could own your own company in a year, but 7 months in she is still only one step up from the entry level role (and she seemed good at her job!) 2) performance based pay, I was given an 'average' take home each week, which was okay - but totally performance related and less than I am currently on. 3) When asked if I could start tomorrow I said I have a two week notice period, which I could push to 1 week if they needed. I was told I would have to start tomorrow and that I had no obligation to work my notice period. Now I get that, but what strikes me is generally you dont do that to people you work with and have built relationships with. Some people can do that and fair play to them, but personally I cant. I think it speaks a lot about a company if that is there attitude towards others. Overall the people I met were enjoyable and friendly, the job didn't match what I thought it was (essentially the pop-up stands selling stuff/services in supermarkets) and I had to pay for my own travel on the experience day- something I was not told about!
