      Technician Interview

      Jul 13, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Miles IT

      Interview

The process started with a one way interview then waiting a few weeks for an update. After this I spoke with a manager via a Google meets interview. The process felt negative as they asked many details regarding DNS, Windows Server Setup, AD, and to describe a difficult situation you faced. The interviewer felt very dismissive and gave the impressions the only metric that matters if the ability to close a high number of tickets with a salary of only 50k. The interview felt targeted at a system administrator, but the position was technician for a below market rate salary. The interviewer also wrongly accused me of using incorrect terminology regarding backups, which perplexed me given I used it correctly. I would recommend staying away from this company unless you are trying to get your first IT position. The company gave me a bad impressions about expectations of the support Team. Overall this was the most negative interview I've had to date with a combative interviewer looking for someone with a large amount of experience for a meager salary.

      Question 1

How would you troubleshoot DNS requests not resolving. What are certain structural items in AD called. Describe a tough situation and describe in technical detail how it was resolved.

Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to write this review. I am sorry that you had a negative experience as that is not my intention. It sounds like you may have been mistaken about the role that you applied for. The questions you mentioned would have been asked in our IT Support interviews. We are a fast-paced MSP and our IT Support staff handle a wide variety of issues on a daily basis, all of the systems you mentioned are relevant. Our Managers would never intentionally be combative in an interview. In a company that fosters growth and education they may make corrections where they see terminology is incorrect, it would never be intended as an insult. As I mentioned, we are a fast-paced MSP, that is the nature of this industry. Any questions regarding pace or metrics would only be asked to ensure that we are setting up potential employees for success. We have found that new hires that have not worked in such an environment may be overwhelmed and we want to make sure the position is a good fit for both the applicant and us in all respects. If you would like to discuss you specific situation and any concerns you have in more detail, please reach out to us at careers@milesit.com. I want to thank you for the time you invested in our interview process and I wish you the best of luck in your career.

      Interview

Several video interview questions, and a phone call from Chris Miles. Went back and forth for about 2 in person interviews that spent time walking around the facility (which is amongst the best parts of the job), and being quizzed on IT type questions.
