Had a technical phone screening where I was asked a whole bunch of Java trivia questions. That’s cool. There were only a few questions that I didn’t know the answer to off the top of my head, and for those I’d reason to the correct answer (as confirmed by the interviewer), but that didn’t seem to matter at all because I was penalized anyway for not already having the answers engrained in my brain from the get-go.
In addition to the interviewer being far more nitpicky about my answers compared to other interviewers I’ve had in the past, he also asked a few questions that barely made any sense or were definitely specifically designed to “get you” such as “this or that?” questions where the answer was neither.
I can’t help but wonder if they’re that nitpicky in an interview, what must it be like to actually be working under them? Also god forbid I don’t know the answer to something and have to use logic and problem-solving to figure it out.
