      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Elmhurst, IL) in Sep 2013

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter via email and then via text message. I had an initial phone interview with another recruiter. During the phone interview I was asked about my interests and what kind of jobs I was applying for. She then told me about the merchandising coordinator position and invited me to come in for a interview the next week. I was told that I would be meeting with one person and then found out when I arrived that I was going to be interviewed by three people. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. However, I left the 3.5 hour interview very hungry having not been prepared on how long it would last. The first interview entailed finding a part in the catalog and talking out-loud how I would find the part. The second round I was just asked about my previous work experience and then the third round I was given a company presentation and asked things on the spot about how I would look for information and how the company was organized. I was then quizzed again during a tour of the warehouse. As someone who had never been in a warehouse I answered thoughtfully to why I thought the warehouse was set up a certain why, but was not able to answer the questions correctly. I was told I would be contacted in a week and sent out thank you letters the next day. Four days later I received a surprising email that I had not been chosen for the position even though I thought that the interview had gone well.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why do we lean these poles instead of stacking them? Why do we lean these heavy poles? How do you research information on parts? How would you know which parts to add and take out of the catalog?

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Elmhurst, IL) in Oct 2018

      Interview

Interview process was quick and fairly painless. I was contacted by a recruiter who found my resume on Indeed. A week after our phone screener I was invited for an on-site interview and about 3 business days after, they made the final decision. Although I didn't get an offer I appreciate how well run the process was. During the two hour on-site interview they managed to squeeze in a building tour, plant tour, second interview with HR, interview with the hiring manager, and a briefing with someone already in the role on what to expect.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Cedar Rapids, IA) in Oct 2018

      Interview

I was recruited online and offered an initial phone call screening. We set up an interview time for later that same week, and I heard back from them less than a week after the interview.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked if I had looked at the company website. Most of the phone call consisted of them providing me with a more detailed explanation of the job, and answering my questions. I was also asked a few questions about my resume, including explaining how I had started some of my jobs.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at McMaster-Carr (Elmhurst, IL) in May 2018

      Interview

Came in and was given a tour of the warehouse. Spoke to four employees over the course of three hours, in addition to a former merchandising coordinator who was able to give me a better idea of what the position entailed. Was asked about my education and work history--pretty standard stuff.
