      Legal Practice Assistant (LPA) Interview

      Nov 25, 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Mayer Brown (Washington, DC) in Nov 2025

      Interview

Super straightforward interview conducted on-site for a Hybrid role. I tried to keep it professional, but the LPA interviewing was very unprofessional and rude. The LPA and the secretarial manager interviewing me were very hostile from the very beginning and made it clear that they were only interviewing me because the Director of Administration had been impressed with my resume and interview. From the very beginning the LPA treated me with contempt (due to my prior diverse legal experience) even going as far as asking me "if I had proper childcare" because they may need me to stay after hours - which is not only inappropriate, but legally questionable due to its discriminatory nature under employment laws. I'm pretty sure that question was not HR-approved. Extremely shady, condescending, and uncomfortable on-site interview experience that I withdrew my candidacy. If this is how they treat the interviewees, imagine how they treat employees!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Are you ok with the partner not communicating with you all the time about any work he forwards you? 2. Are you ok with working for a partner who hates small talk and doesn't want to talk to you about your personal life? 3. Do you have proper childcare in case we need you to stay after hours? 4. The person who takes this role will have to go through a period of training with me before they can fully take the job, are you ok with CC'ing me in every email, correspondence, and work-product until I am comfortable with letting you work with the partner directly? 5. Why did you change firms so much? (when referring to my 3 - 4 years' experience at one firm before moving to a different firm)
