      Interview

SLUGGISHNESS + LACK OF RESPECT I have had 2 horrible experiences with Marley Spoon's "Hiring Teams", so I *strongly* recommend against sending them your resume, or worse, wasting your time doing their extremely poorly designed challenge. They claim that the challenge "can be done in no more than 3-4 hours", but the reality is that they never considered this when preparing it, as it asks for a start-from-scratch Next.js app with 2 views and an integration with a 3rd party GraphQL API (Contentful). Companies _that actually care_ about what they do with their pool of candidates make an effort to limit the scope of such challenges, which is clearly not the case with Marley Spoon. Furthermore, on both occasions the challenge was requested a couple of hours after the initial HR call, i.e. without any prior technical filtering, which effectively makes the challenge part of the screening phase. This is a RED FLAG that indicates there is very little commitment on their part to consider your efforts. Caution. In my first attempt, the response I received after submitting my challenge solution was that the position was no longer open because they had found someone else. This was frustrating not because I didn't get the job, but because my hard work wasn't even reviewed. After expressing my dissatisfaction, I received the laziest, most superficial review ever, commenting only on code style issues such as "unsatisfactory folder structure" and "mix-up of camel and kebab cases in file names". These were indeed issues, but minor and quick fixes considering the amount of code shipped, so I don't think the review was adequate, as it did not comment on more relevant aspects. After a few years, I applied again. This time the process was a huge sluggish mess, including a confirmed technical interview where the hiring team didn't show up, so I prepared for it, booked my time, showed up, etc., only to receive an apology email *the next day* explaining that it had been canceled without any notice to me. The interview was then rescheduled for *a week later* and went well, I was asked about design choices and several other FE and full-stack topics for which I received immediate positive feedback, so I expected some form of contact in the following days. Another _full week_ went by without any emails from Marley Spoon, so I wrote them asking if the position was still open, to which they replied _yet another full week later_ with a boilerplate message that I didn't pass, and no comment about my performance in the technical interview. Due to sluggishness and lack of respect, I will never apply to Marley Spoon again, and will make a positive effort to let colleagues, social media, and the marketplace in general know how respectfully Marley Spoon treats its candidates.

      Question 1

Nothing fancy. I was asked about my challenge, including live debugging of a simple problem I hadn't noticed before submitting.

      Interview

I had a wonderful time meeting so many highly skilled and talented individuals during the interview process. The technical recruiter, who is very friendly, transparent and accommodating; did an incredible job keeping me in the loop while working with my availability to schedule calls with members of the team. I highly recommend anyone interested in joining to apply • Call with technical recruiter • Take home technical challenge • Discuss solution with team leads • Soft skills and team fit evaluation • Offer call with team lead
