      Junior Gameplay Programmer Interview

      Sep 19, 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Barcelona
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MadBox (Barcelona)

      Interview

They contacted me offering to apply. The process was pretty straight forward, the studio manager called me to have a small introduction, then a technical test that consisted of cloning a mobile game in Unity under 4 hours. After that, I had an interview in the studio with the manager and a senior programmer, and the last step consisted of an interview by phone with someone from the office in France. Until that last call everything seemed fine, everyone was really friendly and I was motivated to start on the company, but in that interview since the beginning, the guy started harassing me accusing me of having cheated on the technical test. I explained how I did everything and answered all questions, the accusation was absurd since I had previous experience with Unity and I had a personal project similar to what hey asked for. After that I didn't receive any reply, I had to contact the manager from Barcelona and finally told me that the managers in France weren't sure on my technical skills so that was it. Not a single opportunity to prove myself. I'm pretty disappointed with the hostility I received since the people from Barcelona seemed pretty sure about me being the perfect candidate. But the guy from France didn't show any kind of professionality neither sympathy. It really made me question if that was a company I would like to work for.

First, I would like to thank you for your feedback. We take every comment to heart regarding our interview process as we’re always aiming at improving our candidate experience. It’s unfortunate that you had a less than ideal interview with us. Our goal at Madbox is to be completely transparent and honest with feedback. I understand that you feel that what was provided was negative in nature. I can assure you that we will review this and improve upon our process where necessary. To be upfront, our philosophy always begins with asking each and every candidate to complete a home assignment. No matter the position, this is an important step in trust. To stay fair and respectful to all, we ask that the assignment is completed without using previous works or relying on past projects to demonstrate professional expertise in the least subjective way possible. I hope that this addresses your concerns and once again, I appreciate your feedback and wish you the best!
