In Vancouver handy dart was run as a non profit well for 20 years. When the government awarded MVT the contract they made everyone, including 20 year experience drivers, re apply for their jobs. The head of the take over was quoted as saying "fire the bas-tards" when he arrived. Thankfully our union was strong and he had to negotiate. Negotiations went on for almost a year with MVT not even trying to settle. They forced a 3 month strike disabling the service and in arbitration were fined 800 thousand dollars for failure to negotiate in good faith. The contract gave the employees mostly what they wanted but MVT fought tooth and nail to break us. You cannot contact any upper management as they do not want anything to do with their front line employees who they treat like garbage while putting out all sorts of propaganda about how they care about us, Such crap. Now in 2 years MVT has managed to cut service to all our handicapped riders while keeping their profit. We have gone from 18.000 ride refusals to over 32,000 refusals in just 2 years.
